The celebration is in honor of the Coast Guard’s 220th birthday and Portsmouth’s recent designation as an Official Coast Guard City. This program as well as admission to both museums will be free and open to the public. Enjoy free tours of a Coast Guard Cutter, which will be docked at High Street Landing. Living history and historic Coast Guard demonstrations will be held at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard Museum, and special Coast Guard make-n-take crafts will be available in the museum’s Discovery Cove area. Representatives from the Zuni Maritime Foundation, the Old Coast Guard Station, and other local museums will be on hand, sharing the history of the Coast Guard in our area. At the Lightship Portsmouth, visitors can meet costumed Lightship sailors, and enjoy a guided tour of this real Coast Guard Lightship. Also, musician, Bob Zentz, will be at the Lightship playing historic maritime tunes throughout the day.
